Hongguan
Alloy 420 is a hardenable martensitic stainless steel that is an improvement on alloy 410. Similar to 410, it contains at least 12% chromium, just enough to provide corrosion resistance. alloy 420 has a higher carbon content than alloy 410, which is designed to optimize strength and hardness properties. It has good ductility it anneals well, but is capable of hardening to a Rockwell hardness of 50 HRC, the highest hardness rating of 12% chromium. Due to its hardening properties, alloy 420 is not often welded, although it is possible. Martensitic stainless steels are designed for high hardness, and sometimes other properties are compromised to some extent. Corrosion resistance is lower than that of ordinary austenitic grades, and its effective working range is limited by its loss of ductility at sub-zero temperatures and loss of strength due to excessive tempering at high temperatures. Its best corrosion resistance is obtained when the metal is hardened and the surface is ground or polished.
