201 2B stainless steel sheet is a high-performance austenitic stainless steel. It replaces some of the nickel used in 300 series stainless steels, such as Type 304, with manganese, making it less costly and more stable. It can also be manufactured in thinner sizes with less material based on weight reduction. Because of the lower chromium and nickel content, the Type 201 stainless steel sheet may not have the same corrosion resistance as Type 304.

201 2B stainless steel sheet has only half the nickel content of the more popular steel and increased manganese and nitrogen content. Type 201 is part of the 200 series of austenitic stainless steels, which are less expensive to produce and have a lower nickel content. The chemical composition of 201 stainless steel sheets helps reduce weight compared to stainless steel 304. However, due to the lower density of chromium and nickel than 300 series, 201 stainless steel sheet has lower corrosion resistance than stainless steel 304.
